Role Overview

A Senior Associate is sought to support the development of the Bank’s activities in the Manufacturing & Services Sector in the Southern Mediterranean (‘SEMED’) region. Located at the Bank’s headquarters in London for a year and based in the EBRD Resident Office in Cairo, Egypt or Casablanca, Morocco, thereafter, the Senior Associate will engage in equity and debt transactions in close coordination and under the direct supervision of Principal and Senior Bankers. His/her duties will include transaction preparation, appraisal and monitoring.

Depending on their banking experience and on their knowledge of the SEMED region, candidates for this position might be hired at Principal Banker level.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

  • Tasks as a project team member or operation leader will include: project screening, financial, technical, legal and environmental due diligence, structuring, negotiations, preparation of documentation and monitoring of projects
  • Monitoring of existing Bank investments; monitoring project implementation and operation, loan administration, preparing monitoring reports based on meetings with clients, site visits and financial reviews
  • Research and undertake credit, financial and economic analysis of projects in the Manufacturing & Services sector including production of cash flow projections and in-depth analysis of financial statements provided by client companies or sectors including regulatory developments, market trends, peer comparisons, etc.
  • Draft specific assigned portions of Bank documents and correspondence• Financial modelling
  • Participate or lead project implementation, including administrative and analytical support in specific areas of project monitoring
  • Attend meetings with clients and counterparties

Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Relevant degree from a leading university (e.g. business administration, economics, finance). An MBA degree would be considered preferential.
  • Credit analysis skills: ability to interpret accounts, understanding international accounting principles
  • Minimum 5 years work experience (e.g. banking, finance, accounting, audit or project finance) gained from a major commercial/investment bank, equity fund, advisory services or corporate finance firm and practice of credit analysis
  • Proven analytical skills; strong numerical and financial skills, with ability to interpret financial information and to design and use financial models
  • Very good written and oral communication skills in English, Arabic and, ideally, French
  • Sound understanding of business principles
  • Work experience in emerging markets, including North Africa and/or the Middle East  
  • Corporate/investment banking experience in the Manufacturing & Services sector would be an advantage
  • Computer literacy: Conversant with Microsoft Office

  • Willingness to travel to and work in other EBRD countries as necessary
