Simavi Programme Officer
Simavi is an ambitious and growing development organisation. Together with local partners we improve the health of people in the poorest regions in developing countries. With special attention for mothers as change agents, we take care of safe drinking water, sustainable sanitation, hygiene, access to primary health care, healthy pregnancies and safe deliveries. With more than one hundred partners we offer practical support to communities in nine countries in Africa and Asia.
In the Netherlands, and internationally, we influence the policies of governments and companies to take into account the health of the poorest people. We campaign to engage the general public and involve them in what we do. We are also lead agent of the WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Alliance and we are member of the SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights) Alliance.
For our Programme Department we are currently looking for an experienced Programme Officer:
Programme Officer (32 hrs)
The candidate will work in a team of Programme Officers who are responsible for developing and managing projects and programmes of Simavi in Africa and Asia. Together with colleagues you will also be active in developing policies and funding proposals.
Responsibilities
- Implement programmes on primary health care, including Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and community health;
- Assessment of programme proposals for funding;
- Support implementation and monitoring of projects and programmes (including visits to the region, 2 or 3 times a year);
- Manage partner relations (NGOs, consultants, embassies, government etc);
- Contribute to policy development and develop funding proposals in the field of WASH and public health.
The Programme Officer will report to one of the Team Coordinators.
Job requirements
- Academic level with knowledge and experience in the field of Public Health and/or WASH;
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience of which 3 years in a developing country;
- Collaboration with private sector is an asset, i.e. Public Private Partnership;
- Experience with project management, programme planning models and monitoring systems;
- Ability to contribute to the development of funding proposals;
- Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English;
- Dutch citizen or in possession of legal entitlement to live and work in the Netherlands;
- Team player, but also able to work independently;
- A networker with an ability to represent Simavi in various situations.
Simavi offers
- An interesting position for an initial period of 1 year in a dynamic and international working environment, with substantial personal freedom in the context of an ambitious and professional team;
- A gross monthly salary between € 2125,- and € 3070,- on a fulltime basis of 36 hours;

- Location: Haarlem, The Netherlands.
