African Development Bank Principal Director


ADB seeks qualified professionals to fill this vacancy in its Department of External Relations (DER).

DER works to promote public understanding of and support for ADB, its policies and operations. It is the focal point for all public information activities including building relations with media, managing the external website and Bank’s publishing program, and leading internal communications and ADB’s information disclosure requirements. It supports ADB Management’s public communications and outreach strategies to raise the Bank’s profile and position ADB as a knowledge bank.

The position is responsible for providing overall leadership and management of DER and its operations; lead the development and implementation of departmental work plan and ensure units meet objectives and targets; ensure DER work plan contributes to overall ADB’s strategic priorities; lead DER interaction with ADB Management, Board of Directors and other departments; lead DER’s support to Management and Senior Staff on external relations and outreach.

Education Requirements

Master’s degree, or equivalent, in Journalism, Communications, Social Sciences, Public./Business Administration, or related fields. University degree in Journalism, Communications, Social Sciences, Public./Business Administration, combined with specialized experience in related organization may be considered in lieu of a Master’s Degree.

Relevant Experience and Other Requirements • Suitability to undertake the responsibilities mentioned above at the required level • At least 15 years of relevant experience and demonstrated technical competence in public relations and/or journalism, with good knowledge of the Asia-Pacific region • Experience in planning, researching, and writing articles and speeches on international finance, economic, and development issues • Knowledge and understanding of international media and good media contacts • Ability to liaise and deal effectively with Management, Board of Directors, staff and other external counterparts • Excellent interpersonal skills to lead and manage diverse teams of highly qualified professional staff; national officers, and administrative staff • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English • International experience working in several countries.
