IFC is pursuing a dynamic growth strategy with a particular focus on expanding its Private Equity Funds (PE) investments in East Asia and Pacific region. To strengthen its team in Indonesia, we are seeking an experienced Associate Investment Officer to be based in our Jakarta Office.

As part of the Indonesia country team, as well as the regional Private Equity Funds team, the Associate Investment Officer will lead business development, execute transactions, and actively manage portfolio projects in the financial sector. He/she will establish and maintain strong relationships, at the highest levels, with banks and non-bank financial institutions, investors, as well as with governmental and non-governmental organizations.

The position reports to the Manager, Financial Markets Industry Group – East Asia and Pacific, Hong Kong.

Duties and Accountabilities

• Develop and promote IFC’s investment activities in the financial sector in Indonesia, as part of IFC’s overall Indonesia country strategies;
• Conduct analysis of and follow up on new business opportunities and liaise extensively with colleagues in local, regional and global teams;
• Participate in negotiations, use negotiation skills to overcome impasses and finalize negotiations in straightforward transactions;
• Assess investments from financial, technology/operations, management and governance viewpoints;
• Coordinate with all relevant units, including advisory services, legal, credit, and environmental and social, to structure, strengthen, document and close equity, debt and structured finance investments;
• Manage assigned portfolio of existing investment projects and pro-actively develop the relationship to add value to project clients and extract value for IFC; and
• Contribute to IFC’s repository of industry specific know-how, key industry ratios, lessons learned, and other tools for better and more efficient decision-making.

Selection Criteria

• MBA or equivalent qualification;
• At least 5 years experience in finance with a proven track-record of sourcing, structuring and closing investments; candidates with consulting and/or advisory/auditing background in leading institutions are also encouraged to apply;
• Experience in and analytical knowledge of emerging markets in general and the Indonesia financial sector in particular;
• Existing and usable network amongst financial and strategic investors in the Indonesia financial sector;
• Strong financial and credit skills; demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments (debt and equity);
• Demonstrated experience and track record in analyzing, investing in, and monitoring the performance of private equity funds would be a plus;
• Business development and client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on clients needs effectively;
• Ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of potential clients, of financial and technical partners as well as senior government officials;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia; additional language skills in Mandarin is preferred;
• Strong inter-personal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds;
• Ability to mentor junior investment staff;
• Highly motivated, committed to highest ethical standards;
• Genuine commitment to sustainable development; and
• Willingness to travel extensively and geographic flexibility.
