Data Specialist

Good World Solutions (GWS) is looking for talented and passionate individuals to apply their market research and strategic insights to technology for good. We have an ambitious goal to enhance the livelihoods of one million workers and farmers by 2020, using the transformative power of mobile technology to make workers the agents of their own development and give companies the data they need to source responsibly.

Working with our senior management team, global partners, and Fortune 500 companies, the Data Specialist is a key member of our growing GWS team, and will possess a strong knowledge of polling and statistics, including sampling design, weighting, variance estimation, non-response bias analysis/studies, imputation, and analysis of data from complex sample surveys. The Data Specialist will be responsible for leading quantitative research inquiries including survey design, execution, and data interpretation that support GWS growth and strategic goals.

This exciting newly created position will contribute to the overall success of the organization by supporting analysis across GWS industry-leading tools: Labor Link and the Fair Wage Guide. Labor Link leverages the power of mobile to survey farmers and workers in global supply chains about their working conditions, livelihoods, and job satisfaction. The award-winning Fair Wage Guide enhances livelihoods for piece-rate workers by calculating fair wages for handmade goods. The Data Specialist will be an integral player in furthering the development and implementation of GWS tools across the globe.

Responsibilities include:

Partnering with GWS field teams to develop innovative sampling design and analysis procedures adapted to local needs in India, Brazil, China and other Labor Link countries
Conducting custom statistical analyses and data modeling to support action by companies and NGOs towards more worker-centric policies and practices
Analyzing statistics and writing technical reports for Fortune 500 companies
Using standard statistical and data management software to execute data processing/analysis and variance estimation
Specifying weighting and imputation methods to compensate for missing data
Reviewing different methodology/sampling documents, effectively summarizing the findings, and assessing the implications for GWS
Working with GWS client team to develop and write proposals for survey campaigns that inform strategic decision-making


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Statistics, Business, Economics or similar discipline required (Master’s Degree preferred)
Robust analytical and Excel skills, with experience analyzing large datasets in Excel
Expertise in statistical software, such as SAS, STATA, or SPSS a plus
Knowledge of business intelligence software Tableau or Salesforce a plus
2 years of experience in designing and implementing market-oriented research and consumer surveys preferred
Interest or experience in ICT4D, social enterprise, international development preferred
