Deputy Director (END in Asia project)

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Director (END in Asia project) in Bangkok, Thailand.
Position Description:
To assist the Project Director in providing leadership, oversight and overall management support to Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) activities and interventions throughout the FHI 360 Asia and Pacific region, including program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, quality control, and strategic information.
Duties and Key Responsibilities
  • With the Project Director, leads, plans and coordinates the overall NTD program to support activities and interventions in focus countries in the region including working closely with government counterparts, FHI 360 country directors and staff, consultants and other stakeholders.
  • Monitors and ensures that all NTD activities and interventions in the region are consistent with WHO and other relevant international standards, guidelines, protocols, and best practices and implemented with the highest feasible level of technical quality, as well as FHI 360 and USAID policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with other international and/or local NTD experts in the development and implementation of guidelines, tools and recommendations related to implementation and evaluation of NTD activities.
  • Provides leadership and management support related to NTD control and elimination strategies, approaches and programming to all FHI 360 funded NTD activities in the region, including the design, development, planning, implementation and capacity building of all program activities.
  • Strengthens the capacities of National NTD Programs in the region in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of NTD strategies and interventions and assists them in developing technical and service quality improvement plans and activities.
  • Contributes to the development and quality control of project annual workplans and collaborative workplans with partner national NTD programs, as well as other project documents and reports.
  • Participates in project assessments, evaluations and design teams related to NTDs.
  • Provides oversight and assistance to all required reporting, including drug treatment and coverage reporting, disease distribution reporting, and survey reports; as well as the development of appropriate reporting systems and data bases.
  • Monitors and documents lessons learned and best practices of NTD programs and applies these lessons to strengthen existing programs and/or improve the design of new programs.
  • Remains up-to-date on emerging NTD-relevant technologies, therapies and best practices by reviewing current literature on NTD and related fields and monitoring relevant experience and research findings to identify innovations that may strengthen programs and services in the region.
  • Represents FHI 360 and END in Asia to external organizations at professional meetings and conferences.
  • Develops and maintains close collaborative relationships with donor organizations, relevant government agencies, and other international organizations relevant to NTDs, especially USAID, WHO and RTI/ENVISION.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Expertise and Complexity
  • In-depth technical and functional knowledge in NTD control and elimination, preferred; or similar public health program programming.
  • Experience implementing WHO NTD polices and guidelines preferred; or similar public health programming.
  • Knowledge and working experience with NTD programs in developing countries.
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and understating of the political and ethical issues surrounding NTD infections.
  • Strong diagnostic, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to reach mutual points of agreement and benefit among peers and colleagues
  • Ability to work well with others and to develop and maintain compatibility among project staff, subcontracts, recipients of assistance and other stakeholders.
  • Well developed written and oral communication skills and fluency in the English language.
  • Ability to travel internationally at approximately 40% or 50%, depending on project needs.
  • Frequent interaction with others within and outside the organization and ability to resolve problem situations with tact.
Minimum Requirements:
Master‘s Degree or PhD in Public Health or related field, and at least five years of experience working in developing countries. Experience must reflect the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
