Director, International Trade

Join the senior leadership team of the Trade and Marketing Divisionresponsible for developing and implementing a strategy that builds Ontario as a destination for global business.

The International Trade Branch assists Ontario companies with exportable goods and services to access and expand into international markets, as well as leads the organization of business delegations that accompany the Minister and Premier on Trade Missions.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a highly motivated and results-oriented executive, you will: 
•    Help build a ‘global’ mindset at the community level and showcase Ontario’s products and services internationally.
•    Provide leadership and administrative direction to the development, delivery and support of export development strategies for the province.
•    Direct the development, implementation, management and review of multi-year plans to effectively assist Ontario firms to sell their goods and services in international markets.
•    Represent the Ministry and provincial government in ongoing consultation and negotiations with other local and foreign governments and export development facilitators/influencers in the development of joint initiatives.
•    Direct the tendering, negotiation, selection and contracting process for external service suppliers.
•    Effectively manage relations with outside agencies and service suppliers, providing ongoing direction, supervision and evaluation of supplier activities.
•    Foster and promote a productive team environment and a culture of service excellence and create an inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible workplace.

Senior Leadership:

•    You are a senior executive who has demonstrated experience leading and motivating high-performing and diverse teams.
•    You have proven abilities in providing strategic direction, establishing priorities and developing and implementing programs.
•    You are an inclusive leader who values service excellence and creates a culture of diversity, inclusion and equity in the workplace.

Technical Skills:

•    You have superior strategic planning and program analysis skills to analyze export development programs and client service requirements, predict future needs and assess operational performance data.
•    You have international business experience.
•    You have proven sales and marketing skills.

Communications, Issues Management and Political Acuity:
•    You have superb communication skills necessary to advise senior executives within the Ministry and to lead discussions with sector agencies, suppliers and partners and other ministry/government stakeholders.
•    You are politically astute and can represent government on complex issues.
•    You have strong judgment, analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities.

Salary range:  $115,000.00 – $131,450.00 per year
