Guatemala has one of the most dynamic economies in Central America, rich in natural resources and productive opportunities, but it also suffers great inequality, a high degree of poverty and is at constant risk of natural disasters. Oxfam is working hard to deliver a range of programmes to to create an equal society, improve and deliver sustainable livelihoods, reduce food insecurity and work on capacity building in preparedness and response to humanitarian emergencies. Your leadership of the country office will be critical to our success. 

The role 
As the Country Director you’ll be responsible for providing the strategic leadership of Oxfam’s programme in Guatemala, ensuring the delivery of a programme strategy, through affiliates and partners, in challenging and complex locations, that continues to deliver high levels of programme impact in the humanitarian, campaigns/advocacy and development fields. As Chair of the Country Leadership Team you will work to ensure that the Single Management Structure change activity is implemented successfully. That means line managing the Managing Affiliate’s work to ensure that programmes are effectively managed, resourced, monitored and implemented. You’ll also work hard, and in collaboration, to identify and negotiate new funding sources, as well as representing Oxfam to a diverse range of stakeholders including government agencies, private sector organisations, and donors at senior level: locally, regionally and globally. As Oxfam’s most senior manager in the country, you will take overall leadership of disaster preparedness, disaster risk reduction and humanitarian response activities. 

What we’re looking for 
We’re looking for an inspirational leader with extensive experience of international programme development and strategy in a development and humanitarian context. In addition you will have a good understanding of policy and campaigning, and can demonstrate good judgement and complex problem solving skills. Also you’re up to the challenge of motivating and developing geographically remote, multidisciplinary teams. More than that, you’ll have an understanding of the factors driving poverty, marginalisation and vulnerability in developing countries, and be able to think politically and strategically in challenging situations. And as well as being analytical and flexible, you’re results driven and capable of facilitating change. The ability to speak both English and Spanish fluently is essential.
