Department
The A&M London Documentaries and Drama Department produces a wide range of documentaries, drama and readings output across the networks but chiefly for Radio 4, Radio 3 and Radio 4 Extra. Alongside factual programmes are classic plays, popular series, contemporary dramas and readings. The Drama wing of the department (where this post sits) is based in Old Broadcasting House London. The Readings and Documentaries Units are on two other floors in Old BH. within easy reach.
Role
Production Co-ordinator, Schedules is a member of a small busy central team and directly maintains a centralised record of the Transmission Schedule across those networks to which the department contributes. The postholder provides comprehensive support to the department’s three Editors on matters affecting the transmission schedule, its regular changes and associated compliance needs. Their work complements and supports that of other production management colleagues in the team. The postholder supports the Offers Rounds across all three areas, and for Drama also oversees the Unit’s submissions and results around the key R3, R4 and R4 Extra Offers Rounds. They support Production Exec Drama in monitoring business levels against agreed output targets and offer pan-Radio Drama UK support to the Drama and Readings Editors and genre Head at times when major transmission changes need to be negotiated within the Drama and Readings strands. In supporting the Documentaries area, they will help accommodate the needs of reactive commissions, and be aware of the scheduling needs of series like Document, Lives and Last Word. PC Schedules liaises with the department’s production teams, and schedulers within each Network. They are a central reference and liaison point for all enquiries on current scheduling and related compliance issues.
Requirements
You will need a keen interest and knowledge of Drama and Docs productions and substantial experience of playing a co-ordinating role within a production team. You will also have a good working knowledge of end-to-end multi-platform production with a level of technical awareness. Excellent organisational and planning skills - the ability to schedule and prioritise people and activities to meet operational deadlines is key to this role, as well as the ability to use and advise on production systems and adopt new technologies on productions. Business and finance skills are essential, to be able to prepare, manage and/or monitor specific production resource plans and budgets. You will also need excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work productively and collaboratively within a diverse production team.
