Department

The Communications department are responsible for managing, promoting and protecting the BBC’s corporate reputation both externally and internally.

Role

You'll provide the relevant output/programmes and editorial teams with an authoritative source of advice on all aspects of press and publicity to agreed standards of quality and cost, creating and implementing written programme strategies, agreed with the relevant head of comms, to deliver an effective 360 degree communications campaign.

You will take full responsibility for the management of the campaigns and for the liaison with, and communications management of, named senior BBC executives.

Seeking innovative ways to increase favourable media coverage is crucial in this role, as is the raising of the profile of specific output in accordance with the priority based marcomms strategy. The ability to identify and also anticipate potential issues which will have a negative impact, is key.
 
You will build media relationships, across all forms, and work to stimulate public interest in prioritised programmes and services by devising imaginative and innovative campaigns, specifically tailored to the individual programme or audience.
 
Co-ordination of press conferences and briefings, previews, handling requests for interviews and giving authority for viewings to be arranged is also a key part of this role.

Requirements

You will bring a proven record of achievement in publicity, public relations or journalism, supported by a good understanding of the media environment and the news gathering process both in radio, television and print.

Excellent news sense with the ability to write crisp, clear and lively press releases and copy is key, as is lateral, creative thinking, and the hunger to constantly try new ideas and approaches.

Crisis management experience is a must.

You will have good IT skills, with the ability to adapt to new IT systems.

A knowledge of the specific needs/interests of the children’s audience and/or the education field is useful for these roles.
