Department

Radio Current Affairs makes a wide range of original programmes – principally for Radios 4 and 5 Live and the World Service. They include Analysis, Assignment, Crossing Continents, The Report, More or Less, 5 Live Investigates, Money Box, In Business, From Our Own Correspondent and The Bottom Line. We also sell a range of commissioned short series and programmes to Radio 4 and World Service. We have a strong multiplatform presence and always seek to get our journalism out to the widest possible audience, including Online and TV. File on 4 and 5 Live Investigates are made by the RCA teams in Salford.

Role

contract 3 x continuing & 1 x 12 month attachment/ftc

We’re looking for Senior Broadcast Journalists who are able to work on a wide range of radio current affairs output, and capable, when necessary, of leading programme teams as a series producer. The people we are looking for will also help Editors and Assistant Editors by providing editorial leadership and programme ideas, and by mentoring less experienced journalists.

Requirements

We’re looking for experienced BJs or existing SBJs who have wide interests. You’ll need to demonstrate a commitment to making original and challenging programmes, and a track record of doing so – preferably in long form. These are primarily production posts but there will be opportunities for reporting and presenting for those who wish to do so.

Because there are several opportunities we’re not looking for one specialism in particular. You could be keen to use your interest in ideas and political thinking on Analysis, or want to help develop our investigative journalism, or to use your keen and original interest in foreign affairs. We’re also looking for people who can lead the production of series like The Why Factor, Law in Action, Profile, More or Less and The Bottom Line.

Whatever your main specialism, you’ll be committed to excellence, to challenging received wisdom, and to giving audiences insights and stories which go beyond the daily news agenda.

In your application you should demonstrate an understanding of RCA programmes and evidence that you are ready to take a senior role on at least two of them.

You’ll need to be willing to work flexibly, including some weekends, and to travel where necessary.

For further information on the roles, please contact Nicola Meyrick, Executive Editor, Radio Current Affairs
(Ext 02-40940).

Interivews will be held in the week beginning 18th March 2013.
