Senior Purchasing Manager University of Warwick


Salary: £37,012 to £44,166 per annum(a market supplement of £2,000 per annum is payable for Members of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (MCIPS).
Our client is seeking a Senior Purchasing Manager to provide strategic leadership of its category management programme, guidance on all aspects of EU Procurement, co-ordinating the purchasing functions across a range of commodity specific areas and working with suppliers and stakeholders across the organisation to formulate strategy and working procedures that achieve savings whilst maintaining and improving the quality of products, services and associated costs.

As part of a dynamic Purchasing and Insurance Office, the role will be responsible for managing the complete procurement process in accordance with EU public procurement directives and University financial procedure as well as keeping up-to-date with annual changes in legislation. The position will involve initiating, negotiating, awarding and controlling contracts and framework agreements to be utilised by the University of Warwick, monitoring performance throughout the contract term along with the management of numerous high profile projects across the institution. The individual will provide specialist advice on contractual issues and procurement, acting as the purchasing representative on a number of University and national groups and working parties along with analysing data from SAP to identify areas of risk and/or opportunities for benefit and real bottom line savings. Reporting to the Head of Purchasing and Insurance, they will manage a team of three which will include two Purchasing Managers.
The appointee will be a driven individual with strong interpersonal, organisational and project management skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines They will have the ability to produce a top level, effective commodity strategy coupled with effective commodity management skills and importantly, an established and evidenced record of delivering savings on category spends in excess of £30M within a target driven environment. They will hold a professional qualification, such as full membership to the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, and have extensive post-qualification experience in a similar role in a target driven, procurement environment.
