Job Purpose
Provide effective people and technical management of aircraft maintenance staff to ensure compliance with all regulatory and company requirements and procedures Work with the Aircraft Controller and Quality, Planning and Technical Managers to achieve required quality and costs targets as well as delivery of the maintenance product.
Supports and implements business change within a culture of continuous improvement
Job Dimensions
- People management responsibilities for c. 25 staff
- Manage a team of staff at all grades in people management procedures (applying employment policy as appropriate) and performance processes
- Manage individual staff and teams from all grades in on-the-shift maintenance and compliance activities
- Participates in and leads aircraft maintenance activities
- Maintenance oversight for individual and team activities around the aircraft side ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory and airmanship standards
- Will be required to work shifts
Principal Accountabilities
- Working on a shift basis, responsible for the management of a team of c.25 staff
- Responsible for the completion of all planned and ad-hoc maintenance tasks within a shift, through effective supervision and allocation of resources, equipment, assets and use of the full scope of qualifications held
- Responsible for remaining qualified and authorised on all aircraft types
- Accountable for team compliance with environmental and Health & Safety regulations/guidelines
- Management of airmanship standards, including compliance with regulations and company procedures to ensure continued airworthiness of the aircraft
- Responsible for team and individual coaching, performance management and career development
- Responsible for people management of a team of staff at all grades in accordance with all BA employment policies (e.g. disciplinary and attendance management, performance management and grievance resolution)
- Responsible for meeting productivity and cost targets and exploring and implementing improvement opportunities
- Support and implement change to create a culture of continuous improvement in a production environment in order to increase unit performance
- Ensure and support effective communications within the shift/team.

Essential Qualifications
- EASA B1 AME Licence
- Authorisation on Airbus A320 family experience
Experience
- Experience working in an aircraft maintenance environment
- Experience supervising or managing a team
- Experience of working within the scope of legal regulations and company requirements
- Business awareness and understanding of business change processes
Expertise
- Technical knowledge of aircraft engineering activities
- Sounds knowledge of EASA/CAA airworthiness regulations
- Understanding of internal procedures and awareness of Quality, Health Safety and Environmental legislative requirements
- PC literate and good understanding of BA Engineering IT systems (key user level knowledge of SAP)
- Understanding of Engineering Bargaining Group Agreements and BA employment policies and processes
- Principles of good people management
