Executive Director , Secretariat of the Green Climate Fund
We are seeking an exceptional leader to be appointed as the inaugural Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Green Climate Fund.
The Green Climate Fund (“the Fund”) is a new multilateral Fund that was created under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The Fund’s purpose is to make a significant and ambitious contribution to the global efforts of limiting the warming to 2° Celsius by providing support to developing countries to limit or reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
The Executive Director will head the Secretariat that will be based at the Fund’s headquarters in Songdo, Incheon City (Republic of Korea). The position is for an initial three year period.
The Executive Director will be appointed by, and be accountable to, the Board of the Green Climate Fund (24 members). The successful candidate will act as a representative of and will promote an international profile for the Fund, as well as lead the Secretariat’s efforts in supporting the Board, to ensure the successful implementation of the objectives of the Fund; ideally drawing on his/her experience and proven skills to build, lead and manage a large organization in an international context.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to provide intellectual and strategic leadership, based on extensive knowledge and experience of climate change, development and/or financial issues, and their interrelationships. This will be underpinned by a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, including experience in, or working with, developing countries. An advanced degree in a relevant field is desirable.
