Starting Salary: £32,267, rising annually to £35,244
These are two fixed-term appointments for three years.
The Oxford Brookes Information Solutions (OBIS) directorate has responsibility for provision and support of IT services and solutions across the university; the OBIS Technology department managing development and support of the underlying IT infrastructure spanning five campuses and supporting over 20,000 staff and students. Having secured significant funding for a data centre transformation project (including a dedicated training budget), we are now seeking two Technical Analysts to join the Systems and Databases team as we move towards a hybrid cloud environment with near-ubiquitous server virtualisation. By embracing best practice in process automation and system orchestration, we intend to radically enhance security, service availability and business continuity, through the introduction of “software-defined data centre” and supporting technologies.

You will be:
- responsible for research, design, development and documentation of new and existing systems, including a hybrid cloud environment (Infrastructure-as-a-Service)
- a core member of the data centre transformation project team and play a key role in the design and implementation of this solution, collaborating with application development teams and other colleagues to ensure successful delivery, ensuring excellent documentation and knowledge transfer throughout for on-going support
- supporting day-to-day operations include monitoring, tuning, upgrades, patching, documentation, asset management and second/third line support of the existing architecture championing process automation and system orchestration to minimise on-going operational overhead.
You should have:
- a degree qualification or equivalent
- evidence of continual professional development.
- a demonstrable passion for IT
- a strong analytical and systematic problem-solving skills
- a customer-orientated approach to service provision
- the ability to work calmly and systematically in a busy environment, to prioritise work and to meet agreed deadlines
- experience of VMware (or equivalent) and a good understanding of cloud technologies (specifically IaaS and PaaS) experience managing mixed UNIX / Windows environments, with an emphasis on scripting and automation, and a good understanding of cross-platform interoperability
