The University of Western Australia (UWA) invites applications for the position of Director of the Australian Urban Design Research Centre (AUDRC). The Centre’s purpose is to teach, research, practice and advocate for high quality urban design. The Centre is guided by a Board of Management and an Educational and Professional Practice Advisory Committee and sits under the umbrella of the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Visual Arts.
The AUDRC is located off campus in the CBD of Perth, has three full time staff and over 30 master’s and PhD students and is equipped with its own gallery and design studio. The Centre has been designated to spearhead the University’s priority research area of ‘Future Cities’. The Centre is expected to play a leading role in the emerging field of urban design and serve as an energetic interdisciplinary hub and interface between government, industry and academia.
The Director is responsible for all of the Centre’s activities in relation to teaching and research and is also expected to play a high-profile public role. In line with the Centre’s Strategic Plan the Director is expected to actively grow the Centre’s capacity and lead it toward financial self-sufficiency. A further opportunity exists for the Director to assume a leading role in the Co-operative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities (CRC-WSC).
Required qualifications and skills include a strong professional and academic background in urban design with a PhD or equivalent in either architecture or landscape architecture; a distinguished teaching, research and publications track record and a demonstrated ability to work in and inculcate an interdisciplinary environment and create linkages between government, industry and the university.

The appointment will be fixed term for three years in the first instance with the possibility for further periods dependent upon securing funding. The University offers an attractive and flexibly constructed remuneration package based on a Winthrop Professorial salary and including generous superannuation and leave provisions. Airfares to Perth (if applicable) for appointee and dependants together with a relocation allowance will be provided.
