Camp Coordination and Camp Management Intern at UNHCR

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is currently seeking one intern to work within the Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) section at its Geneva headquarters. The Intern will gain practical experience in camp coordination and camp management, website and information management, and support to country level CCCM clusters.

About the Camp Coordination and Camp Management Section

UNHCR and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) co-lead the Global CCCM Cluster for conflict and natural disaster induced internally displaced person (IDP) situations respectively. The CCCM Cluster strives to improve living conditions of those living in displacement sites (camps, collective centres, spontaneous sites temporary settlements, transit and return centres) and ensures equitable access to protection and services in camps and camp-like settings. The CCCM Cluster also advocates for durable solutions and ensures organized closure and phase-out of displacement sites upon the IDPs’ return, resettlement or local integration. This position will be in support of UNHCR’s Global CCCM Cluster Unit, based in Geneva, which works with field operations to develop tools and guidance; set standards and policy; build response capacity; and provide operational support to the Cluster.

Supervision, duties and responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Global CCCM focal point and in close cooperation with other in-house sections including the Protection and Shelter Clusters, the intern will undertake a variety of duties to help deliver the CCCM Global Cluster work plan. Duties could include, but not be limited to:
  • Ensuring CCCM website is up-to-date and releasing regular news
  • Assist in the preparation of CCCM meetings and retreats
  • Contributing to the development of data harvesting tools
  • Administrative tasks associated with managing the CCCM Global Cluster
  • Reviewing existing CCCM tools
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of CCCM training
  • Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Strong interest and/or exposure to the field of humanitarian response, camp coordination and camp management
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Strong communication skills, writing and editing skills
  • Excellent research skills
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
  • Willingness to work with minimum supervision, independently, as well as to function as a member of a team
  • Experience in information and database management
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including strong command of MS Office Suite, Desktop publishing (Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Ilustrator and Photoshop)
  • Experience in the use of web-based content management systems (highly desirable)
  • Fluent English (both written and spoken) is essential
  • Fluency in a second UN official language (highly desirable)
  • Flexibility, adaptability and a positive attitude

    UNHCR internships are unpaid. The intern is responsible for his or her own travel, accommodation, medical insurance, visas, and living expenses.
