Junior Programme Officer

For the period of one year
Hivos leads a programme on Internet Governance in the Middle East Northern Africa (MENA region).
 
What will be your responsibility?
As a Junior Programme Officer (JPO) you are assisting the Programme Manager in the design and implementation of this initiative. This means that you are assisting in preparing contracts, plans, evaluate reports and communicate with partners internationally. You are supporting the Programme Manager in preparing presentations and meetings, ad-hoc activities, administrative and organizational activities. Also you are involved in co-writing policy papers, internal and external communication and you are contributing to the writing of annual plans and annual reports.
What will be your profile?
As a Junior Programme Officer you have a relevant academic degree, for example in International relations, International law, Human rights, ICT & Media or Communication.
You have affinity with internet freedom and governance challenges in the MENA region. You are interested in civil society organizations, which are working in the international and at the Arab region. Also you are interested in working with politically sensitive issues and/or countries. It will be a plus if you have experience of working on Internet Governance issues and actors. You have affinity with project management.
We expect you to have organizational skills and good administrative skills. You are stress resistant, flexible and you are able to work independently.
Also you have excellent writing- and verbal skills in English and preferably also French and/or Arabic.
What do we offer?
We offer a stimulating work environment within a professional international organization with very dedicated staff, including international travel. You will be based at Hivos Head Office in The Hague. Employment is offered for the period of 1 year. Your gross salary depends on experience up to a maximum of  € 2.018,09 ( Hivos Grade 9) based on a 32 hrs work week. Travel cost compensation in accordance with Hivos Regulations. Participation in the pension fund.

The main objectives of the programme is to equip civic actors from the Arab region with the necessary skills and knowledge on Internet Governance issues to create their own focus on Internet freedom and digital rights. The programme also aims at raising awareness and building the capacity of its stakeholders to play an active role in promoting, safeguarding and anchoring freedom of expression and information on the Internet in the MENA region.
