The opportunity
 
We are looking for a Compliance Officer, based in Singapore, to be responsible for monitoring and reporting on the validity, accuracy and compliance of Marine’s freight portfolio. You will work on verification and confirmation of all chartering and freight transactions as well as monitoring compliance to ensure all transactions are captured in accordance with the Marine policies and the compilation of the management reports. 
 
Rio Tinto Marine (RTM) exists to provide Rio Tinto with a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of marine transportation, global freight markets and the international maritime regulatory environment. It is a stand-alone business unit, which is responsible for managing, as a principal all Rio Tinto ocean freight and Group's freight exposure in the various shipping markets.

This position is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual seeking new challenges. Based in Singapore and reporting to the Manager – Risk Management, you will be: 
 
  • Managing internal assurance and compliance relating to chartering and freight transactions
  • Maintaining and monitoring of hedging portfolio
  • Assisting with refining control processes to ensure adherence to Marine’s business requirements
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships within Marine, working closely with Freight Portfolio & Operations, Account Management, Finance and Business Systems teams
  • Assisting in the compilation of management reporting
  • Assisting in the continued development of business processes and risk management systems
What you will need for this role
 
To succeed in this challenging role, you will have:
  • Demonstrated banking, shipping or commodity experience in a back office or compliance role
  • Undergraduate qualification in a finance or business-related discipline
  • Strong problem solving skills along with an attention to detail
Knowledge of the fundamentals of dry bulk shipping, its respective markets and available freight-related products which includes vessels types, trade routes and an appreciation of both physical and derivative freight markets will be desirable.
