Required for July 2014, a Head of Department, Mathematics for the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad.

As Head of Department, Mathematics, you will be responsible for the leadership and management of the Departmental unit across the school for both the MYP and DP programmes.

Primary Responsabilities:


  • Exercise leadership and provide an exemplary role model for teaching, professionalism, professional development and administration of the department. 
  • Develop and implement clear departmental goals that are consistent with school-wide goals and specific programme and assessment requirements. 
  • Encourage the development of a sound, shared pedagogy for the department. 
  • Prepare a professional development plan for the department. 
  • Oversee and manage the appraisals of the members of the department. 
  • Take a lead in curriculum development and improvement for the various programmes offered in the Senior School. 
  • Review the current assessment procedure and programme and provide any recommendations for improvement. Assist in student recruitment and assessment by testing mathematical potential. 
  • Work in collaboration with the other Head of Departments in developing a strong team of curriculum leaders. 
  • Generate an annual budget for the department. 
  • Classroom teaching as required.
Required Attributes: 


  • Degree in Mathematics or Bachelors of Education with Mathematics as a major subject. 
  • Certification in teaching with at least 10 years teaching experience. 
  • At least 3 years’ teaching experience in two of the International Baccalaureate Organization Programmes, i.e., PYP, MYP, DP. 
  • Be an Examiner with the IB DP Mathematics or a Moderator/Monitor of Mathematics with the IB MYP. 
  • Demonstrated interest in developing reflective practices and connections across disciplines. 
  • Proven ability to supervise and mentor faculty. 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills relating to parents, students and other teachers. 
  • Willingness to engage with faculty members across the grade 1–12 continuum.



Valued additional assets:



  • Master’s degree in Mathematics or Education. 
  • Experience as a Workshop Leader with the IB. 
  • Track record of producing exemplary results at the IB Exams or Moderation. 
  • Conversant with the supervision of Mathematics-based Extended Essays and Personal Projects. 
  • Grounded knowledge in educational research. 
  • Experience of producing computer generated school timetables. 
  • Experience working within developing countries, and ideally in India. 
  • Working as a Head of Mathematics of Deputy Head of Mathematics.
