Data Analyst
UP Education Network is a nonprofit school management organization whose mission is to rapidly transform chronically underperforming district schools into extraordinary schools that sustain high achievement over time. Our turnaround schools ensure that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and strength of character necessary to succeed on the path to college and to achieve their full potential. UP Education Network currently operates four schools, UP Academy Charter School of Boston (grades 6-8), UP Academy Leonard Middle School (grades 6-8), UP Academy Charter School of Dorchester (grades K1-5), and UP Academy Oliver (grade 6). Across our network, we will serve more than 2500 students in Boston and Lawrence in fall 2014.
Role: The Data Analyst on the Strategy, Evaluation and Innovation (SE&I) team will support the team's efforts to strengthen our use of data across the network, helping us increase access to relevant information, run analysis that is timely and high quality, and make actions that respond directly to evidence. The analysis will support the team's priority goals of improving data capture procedures, developing actionable dashboards, and managing our processes to identify, test and scale innovations. The analyst will report to the Director of Strategy and Evaluation.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Support to the SE&I team efforts to build strong procedures for monitoring program quality at the school level by improving data collection procedures and leveraging the reporting capabilities of team data systems;
- Assist the Director of Strategy and Evaluation in developing real time dashboards that integrate data across sources to provide a well-rounded view of our students, classrooms, schools and network, including assessing progress towards mastery of common core standards and character development;
- Develop reports that respond to internal and external information requests;
- Provide network schools with technical assistance on their use of data;
- Assist the Director of Strategy and Evaluation in developing predictive models that forecast student and workforce outcomes;
- Manage and analyze small scale, controlled experiments that test new approaches to supporting and teaching students;
- Support the SE&I team in planning and prioritizing the team's work; and
- Perform other duties related to this job description as required by the Director of Strategy and Evaluation.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong public speaking skills;
- Experience creating clean, high impact data visualizations;
- Excellent Excel skills required;
- Programming experience in R, Python or SQL and/or demonstrated ability to learn programming languages preferred;
- A sense of humility in the face of success;
- Bachelor's degree is required; and
- Current authorization to work in the United States – A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.
