Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for managing Accounts Payable and will assist with Accounts Receivable, Payroll and the Monthly Close process. The Staff Accountant will help ensure that finance processes, procedures and internal controls are effective and efficient. Additionally, the Staff Accountant will work as a member of the finance team as a highly visible department liaison to assist with all finance department activities, and will contribute to compliance with audit, regulatory and contract requirements. The Staff Accountant will work closely with external parties and staff across the organization.
Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable: review all invoices for appropriate documentation/approval and proper coding/classification prior to payment. Work closely with Grants Accountant and Compliance Manager to ensure that appropriate internal controls are maintained and ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets; perform budget versus actual analysis of expenses. Work directly with vendors to reconcile vendor statements, investigate and correct discrepancies; thoroughly and accurately maintain files and documentation. Assist with annual 1099 reporting and manage electronic vendor files.
Assist with the reconciliation of balance sheet, revenue and expense accounts as a part of the monthly close process. Assist with accounts receivable processing and invoice generation. Assist with creating and maintaining accounting schedules and tools for analysis and financial reporting. Assist with annual audits and annual tax filings.
Respond to inquiries and requests from program staff and explore how the finance function can better support the operations of the organization's programs.
Identify ways to add value, problem solve and improve the accuracy and efficiency of accounting and finance processes and procedures. Work effectively as a part of the finance team and with staff at all levels throughout the organization, cultivating a positive customer-service focused experience with internal and external parties.
Assist with special accounting projects as needed and other assigned duties.
Qualifications:
This is an extraordinary opportunity for a finance/accounting professional with at least one to three years of relevant experience who is interested in working with a mission-focused and committed finance team. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a high level of attention to detail, strong analytical, organization, and problem solving skills. This flexible 24 to 40 hour per week position reports to the Controller but will work directly with the Grant Accountant and Compliance Manager on certain projects.
Other qualifications include:
- Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Business Administration or certificate in Accounting.
- Solid understanding of basic accounting concepts.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word is required. Experience with QuickBooks account software is desired.
