Program Coordinator & Digital Media Educator

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Program Coordinator will provide operational and administrative assistance while also taking on a minimum of 3 outreach classes per week.
Primary Duties
  • Lead instructor for outreach workshops and programs. Available to teach anytime between 8:30am and 9:00pm, Monday-Saturday.
  • Coordinate and prepare all materials, cameras and curriculum needed for each outreach program.
  • Facilitate exhibitions at the conclusion of each project.
  • Adhere to deadlines and contest submissions as outlined in Outside the Lens materials.
  • Attend Outside the Lens staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Assist with yearly special events including our annual gala and local conferences.
  • Supervise volunteers who are placed within the program department, at class placements or within our office space.
  • Assist team members in preparing and formatting documents, emails, curriculum and related to the programs.
  • Maintain tracking system within database system of workshops, programs and student participants.
  • Take a leadership role during summer programs.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and occasionally lead committee groups.
  • Provide assistance to team members for the development and implementation of new programs and curriculum.
  • Take responsibility for one time workshops that are scheduled within our media lab space.
  • Develop ideas for expanding current programs and current reach with the assistance of the Program Director.
  • Coordinate logistical arrangements for workshops, programs and exhibitions that take place off site.
  • Oversee open lab night once a week.
  • Coordinate exhibition materials once a month for Friday Night Liberty Gallery Opening.
  • Maintain blog posts and social media updates related to programming.
  • Contribute to the everyday operations of the OTL team
  • Submit monthly reports to Program Director.
Qualifications:
We are currently seeking teachers who have experience in a classroom setting and a mastery level of at least one type of media (photography, video, graphic design, radio).
We are also looking for the attributes listed below:
  • Dependable
  • Minimum of 3 years working with youth 3-12th grade
  • Understand & respect youth from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience within a classroom setting, strong classroom management skills
  • Ability to lead a class of 20-30 students independently
  • Proficient in at least 2 of the following: Photography, Video, Radio, Graphic Design
  • Take initiative attitude
  • Self-starter
  • Flexible
  • Strong communication skills
  • Effectively collaborates with others
  • Problem solver, able to think your their feet
  • Ability to work in shared office space
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Bilingual (plus, but not required)
  • Teaching Credential (plus, but not required)
About Outside the Lens:
Outside the Lens (OTL) engages youth through digital media to create change within themselves, their communities and their world. Students (K-12) tell their unique personal stories through photography, video and other digital media forms while under the guidance of writers, poets, journalists, filmmakers, photographers, artists and teachers. Since 2001, OTL has provided its innovative and adaptable curriculum to more than 13,500 children in a variety of educational settings including weekly classes, after-school programs, summer sessions, workshops and teacher trainings.
