Intern, GHG Protocol Corporate Team, Washington

Overview
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol at the World Resources Institute is looking for a highly motivated full-time intern to join the GHG Protocol Corporate Team. The intern will provide research and administrative support for various GHG Protocol projects related to corporate greenhouse gas accounting including the development of guidance on financed emissions and an avoided emissions standard.
The GHG Protocol ( www.ghgprotocol.org ) is the most widely used international accounting tool for government and business leaders to understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions. The GHG Protocol, a decade-long partnership between the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, is working with businesses, governments, and environmental groups around the world to build a new generation of credible and effective standards and programs for tackling climate change.
Responsibilities
The GHG Protocol corporate team intern would provide research and assistance for several projects. The intern would gain experience in the following areas:
  • Providing research assistance to GHG Protocol's staff, potentially analysis and coordination support for process to develop emissions guidance for the financial sector and avoided emissions associated with good and services.
  • Drafting and editing working papers, fact sheets, journal articles, blogs and presentations on issues relevant to WRI's strategy.
  • Supporting outreach and communication efforts for the project including the GHG Protocol newsletter, website and social media.
  • Assisting in organizing advisory committee, technical working group, and public stakeholder workshops
Qualifications
  • Ideal candidate will have obtained or is in the process of obtaining a masters in a relevant field such as environmental science, engineering, policy, finance or economics. Highly qualified undergraduates are also encouraged to apply.
  • Excellent research, writing and oral communication skills are required
  • Familiarity with greenhouse gas accounting is desirable
  • Proficiency in an additional language is a plus
  • Experience working with companies is a plus
  • Ability to work well in a team and handle multiple priorities
  • Final candidate will be required to take a writing test
Salary and Benefits
This is an unpaid 6 month position. Preferred start day by May 2014, but can be flexible for qualified candidates.
