Job Description
ICANN has an exciting new opening for a Technical Services Engineering Manager in our Istanbul office. This role is critical to our services team and will have a wide reach within the region. The Technical Services Engineering Manager primary role will be to manage technical projects and provide advice regarding technical issues related to domain name registries and registrars.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide level 3 technical support for operational issues impacting gTLD Registries and Registrars.
  • Manage technical projects (e.g., Name collision mitigation, TLD acceptance, technical onboarding of new gTLDs) involving other internal areas, contractors, and community volunteers.
  • Provide technical advice for the evaluation and consideration of new gTLD registry services through Registry Services Evaluation Process (RSEP).
  • Provide expert technical advice to internal areas within the organization.
  • Develop and implement processes to streamline operational activities.
  • Work closely with the Registry and Registrar Services team to resolve issues impacting gTLD Registries and Registrars.
  • Support efforts of the Contractual Compliance team to achieve gTLD Registry and Registrar compliance with technical aspects of agreements and ICANN policy.
  • Work constructively with the Policy team to implement technical aspects of new policies once approved by the community and the ICANN Board.
  • Write detailed technical reports to document interactions with gTLD Registries and Registrars.
  • Provide oversight and support to the technical aspects of the accreditation/application process, including contract renewals, and assignments.
  • Answer questions and assist in the resolution of disputes through written, telephone and in-person communication with registries, registrars, and community members.
Required Skills
  • Proficiency using at least one high-level programming language as Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.
  • Full proficiency in English is required. Proficiency in another language is desirable.
  • Ability to prepare detailed technical reports and presentations to internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to solve complex issues in an ambiguous environment.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to multi-task.
  • Knowledge of DNS standards and operations is required.
  • Knowledge of EPP standards is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Internationalized Domain Names for Applications (IDNA) standards is preferred.
  • Understanding of technical issues involving the Domain name or Internet Industry experience.
  • Excellent cross-divisional management skills for a highly diverse workforce across multiple languages and cultures.
  • Ability to work independently (self motivated).
Required Experience
Prior international experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous relevant experience working for a gTLD or ccTLD registry or registrar is preferred.
  • Minimum 12 years related experience required.
  • University degree required.
