Associate- Urban Transport, Mumbai, India

Overview
EMBARQ, the World Resources Institute's program for sustainable transport and urban development, is seeking an Associate for its Urban Transport group in India. The successful candidate will be based in Mumbai. With strong research and analytical skills, writing and communication skills, and interest in transport, economic development, and urban planning issues, the Associate is expected to work independently to contribute to on-going projects, activities and deliver publications.
Responsibilities
  • Participate actively in EMBARQ and WRI India's ambitious and innovative growth strategy, by pursuing challenging and new areas of research related to urban transport and disseminating results widely.
  • Take charge of specific analytical tasks, demonstrating resourcefulness in completing them on time, with rigor, and high quality
  • Engage with stakeholders, build relationships and focus on sustainable agenda for cities
  • Be willing to learn about EMBARQ and WRI's work across program areas, provide sound technical/analytical assistance across areas
  • Bring strong organizational skills and be comfortable with interdisciplinary, inter-programmatic research, working with teams across different offices.
  • Communicate ideas effectively verbally and in writing; represent EMBARQ India in internal and external meetings; publish posts on EMBARQ's blog etc.
Qualifications
  • Post Graduate/Master's degree in Transport Planning and policy studies, or equivalent
  • At least 7-10 years of work experience demonstrating strong analytical, writing and research skills with publication record
  • Prior experience preparing mobility plans or transportation plans for cities would be a plus
  • Experience formulating parking policies and developing strategies to help cities address parking issues would be desirable
  • Proven track record of managing staff and teams, working with external partners.
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills to deliver high quality analytical/research pieces at short turnaround time.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and work under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with international teams across the EMBARQ and WRI network.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with respect to presenting at conferences, writing academic and policy papers.
  • Good computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), statistical software packages
  • Commitment to EMBARQ's mission as well as WRI's mission and values.
  • Eligibility to work in India.
