Job Summary: 
Lead on policy development and contribute to the strategic messaging and policy influencing of the organization.
  
Main Duties and Responsibilities: 



  1. Contribute to dialogue on strategic direction in coordination with members of the senior management team; 
  2. Lead on the development of organizational policies that reflect these strategic directions in close collaboration with the Director of Policy and Partnerships and other members of the senior management team. 
  3. Lead policy dialogue both internally and externally, in close collaboration with the diplomatic AKDN office and the Director of Policy and Partnerships, on all pertinent policy issues which arise; 
  4. Support programme teams to develop policy/technical inputs into external policy discussions and develop internal capacity at national and regional levels for policy dialogue; 
  5. Lead the preparation of briefing materials and policy positions in support of the diplomatic AKDN office’s engagement on social development issues; 
  6. In coordination with the CEO and Director of Policy and Partnerships, represent AKF in various external meetings, including policy fora, roundtables and working group meetings and help coordinate external relations across the Network, in partnership with the AKDN diplomatic office; 
  7. Build on the overall Programme Strategy to develop a series of specific policy papers that guide aspects of AKF’s programming and influence policy dialogue; 
  8. Collaborate with other actors, including donors and the NGO community, on preparing policy messages and products; 
  9. Assist the AKF Communications Manager in the preparation of strategic communications materials, which reflect AKF’s policy positions. 
  10. Provide management oversight and strategic guidance to the Policy Coordinator. 
  11. Contribute to setting a research and learning agenda for AKF in support of its policy dialogue in close collaboration with the Director of Policy ad Partnerships and the Director of the Evaluation, Research and Learning Unit. 
  12. Contribute to the smooth functioning of the Policy and Partnerships Unit as a member of the management team.
Required Qualifications and Experience:


  • Master’s degree in relevant field and at least three years of work experience in a similar or relevant field; 
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment, preferably in a post-conflict one; 
  • Excellent English written and verbal skills; 
  • Demonstrated experience working with a variety of external stakeholders, and representing an organizations views, positions, and messages (acting as a spokesperson); 
  • Demonstrated experience leading the development of policies. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; 
  • Ability to critically analyze and provide constructive recommendations;    
  • Good team player with ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues;   
  • Willingness to live and work in a post-conflict zones with significant restrictions in personal freedom.
