Job Description
ICANN has an exciting new role for a Technical Research Engineer in our new Istanbul office. This role will be primarily responsible for managing technical projects and providing advice regarding technical issues related to domain name registries and registrars.
Key Responsibilities
- Research new technical issues regarding DNS and related areas.
- Experiment with and implement new DNS technologies and related
- Interact and actively participate on technical organizations like IETF, NANOG, RIPE, APRICOT, CA/B Forum, DNS-OARC, etc.
- Manage technical projects (e.g., Name collision mitigation, TLD acceptance) involving other internal areas, contractors, and community volunteers.
- Provide expert technical advice to internal areas within the organization.
- Write detailed technical papers and reports.
- Other technical duties as assigned or requested.
Required Skills
- Proficiency using at least one high-level programming language as Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.
- Full proficiency in English is required. Proficiency in another language is desirable.
- Ability to prepare detailed technical reports and presentations to internal and external audiences.
- Ability to solve complex issues in an ambiguous environment.
- Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to multi-task.
- Knowledge of DNS standards and operations is required.
- Knowledge of EPP standards is preferred.
- Knowledge of Internationalized Domain Names for Applications (IDNA) standards is preferred.
- Understanding of technical issues involving the Domain name or Internet Industry experience.
- Excellent cross-divisional management skills for a highly diverse workforce across multiple languages and cultures.
- Ability to work independently (self motivated).
Required Experience
- Previous relevant experience working for a gTLD or ccTLD registry or registrar is preferred.
- Minimum 12 years related experience required.
- College degree required, Master of Science degree preferred.
