Required for July 2014, a Senior School Principal  for the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad.

As a member of the senior leadership team, the Senior School Principal will work with the Head of Academy and other colleagues to achieve the goals of the Academy in Hyderabad and to support the vision and mission of the Academies Network as a whole.  


As new Academies open, senior leaders in existing schools will play a key role in establishing and maintaining a strong culture of collaboration across the network.


Primary Responsabilities:


  • Provide leadership in curriculum planning, development, supervision, evaluation and assessment. 
  • Create conditions that ensure that the school is focused first and foremost on effective teaching and learning according to the standards, principles and practices of the IB Middle Year and Diploma programmes (MYP & DP). 
  • Ensure appropriate and timely explorations and applications of innovative and effective approaches to teaching and learning. 
  • Oversee the evaluation and selection of appropriate instructional materials and equipment. 
  • Work closely with the Junior School Principal to ensure that there is strong pedagogical alignment between the two school sections and that the quality of the student experience is consistent throughout the Academy. 
  • Ensure that the Senior School has a full complement of highly skilled and committed staff. 
  • Oversee the recruitment, professional development, supervision and appraisal of all Senior School staff. 
  • Ensure the necessary communication channels are in place with all stakeholders to support the effective operation of the school. 
  • Work to promote the mission and vision to a wide range of external stakeholders. 
  • Promote strong ties between the Senior School and the local community. 
  • Oversee the establishment and maintenance of a safe work environment that ensures effective learning for students, promotes a culture of lifelong learning among staff, promotes strong student and staff relations, and generates a high quality and rewarding work experience for all members of the school community. 
  • Oversee all administrative functions pertaining to the successful operation of the Senior School 
  • Ensure that administrative and decision–making processes are data driven and that appropriate and effective data collection and archiving mechanisms are in place for all required areas of activity. 
  • In collaboration with other members of the Senior Management Team, provide leadership in the development of academic policies and practices (curriculum, assessment and reporting) that are consistent with the Academy’s goals and values. 
  • Work with the Admissions Team to ensure that the selection process of students serves to identify those who are well aligned with the expected student profile. 
  • Establish and promote high standards for all students for academic performance and behaviour, consistent with the philosophy, mission and values of the Academy.
Required Attributes:
 


  • Significant experience as a classroom teacher, with at least five years’ experience as a head of department, or similar administrative responsibility, as well as experience in teacher training/development and curriculum development.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills in the leadership of educational teams, particularly in enabling co-operative practice across departments and teaching staff of diverse experience and backgrounds.
  • Previous successful experience as an IB practitioner/administrator; demonstrable knowledge of the principles and practices underpinning the MYP/DP and the ability to lead the development of curriculum and assessment.
  • An understanding of current educational theory and a well-developed sense of the developmental issues that affect the lives and learning of 12-18 year-olds.
  • Excellent administrative and managerial skills that emphasise accountability and responsibility, collaboration and collegiality.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including intercultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • A passion for education and strong empathy for teachers as learners.
  • Qualities of imagination and energy, accessibility and openness. Capacity for conflict resolution and mediation, with an ability to build consensus, but also to act decisively.
  • Ability to balance competing needs and to keep a sense of humour.

  • Experience of having worked in the developing world
  • Ability to communicate in Hindi.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indian cultures.
