Head of Privatisations Unit

The Republic of Cyprus is launching a privatisation programme and is now seeking a person to lead the Privatisations Unit that will manage the execution of the programme, as per the relevant Law (www.mof.gov.cy).
The position
The successful candidate will be appointed to this very senior position by the Council of Ministers, and will ultimately report to the Council of Ministers, via the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Privatisations. He/she will be responsible for directing and overseeing all the activities of the Privatisations Unit, ensuring its effective functioning. He /she will assume responsibility for managing the staff of the Unit.
The key activities of the Unit include:
  • Managing the privatisation process.
  • Liaising with investors.
  • Preparing all relevant documents (i.e. call for expression of interest, agreements etc).
  • Liaising with competent local and European authorities on relevant technical matters.
  • Preparing reports on the progress of privatisations.
  • Making recommendations on the preferred bidder (where relevant).
The requirements
The successful candidate should meet the following profile requirements:
Academic / professional qualifications
  • University Degree preferably in one of the following areas: Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Law, or in any other related field. A Postgraduate Degree in any of the above subjects or a Professional Qualification will be considered as a plus.
Desired experience
  • At least 12 years experience in a managerial position in a professional services organisation such as a Bank, Consultancy firm, Audit firm or Investment Fund. The successful candidate should have hands-on experience in managing large scale projects and transactions such as mergers, acquisitions and listing of companies on international Stock Exchanges.
  • Experience should include at least 5 years as a Project Director / Manager.
  • Proven track record in successfully managing international large scale transactions and in liaising with international investors, banks, consultants, lawyers etc.
  • Relevant experience in dealing with privatisation projects will be considered as a plus.
Skills & competencies
  • Leadership and organizational skills.
  • Integrity, judgment, with high levels of responsibility and initiative.
  • Strong relationship building and people management skills.
  • A solid network of contacts within international investment funds, banks and consultants.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written). Knowledge of Greek will be considered a plus.
Remuneration
An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate according to qualifications and experience. The position will be on a contract basis for a period of 4 years.
