Agricultural Economist - Economic & Biometrical Services

The ARC - Central Office (ARC-CO) seeks to appoint a highly motivated and dynamic, appropriately qualified and experienced candidate to complement the staff in the following position at Hatfield in Pretoria:

Agricultural Economist - Economic & Biometrical Services

Key performance areas:
l Provide quality research and analyses on macroeconomic, trade and marketing trends, socio-economic development, economic, agricultural and related policy
l Provide strategic advice with respect to economic trends and implications for ARC business in terms of research and commercialisation of research results
l Conceptualise and evaluate the viability of research programmes of the ARC, to support investment decisions and determine the impact of the ARC's research and technology transfer effort
l Contribute to positioning the Economic Services of the Technology Transfer Division of the ARC as a centre of knowledge excellence
l Mobilise internal and external resources for research and analysis of the unit
l Contribute to mentoring and peer support of colleagues
l Publish on Agricultural Economics issues.

Requirements:
l A PhD degree in Economics or Agricultural Economics, with 3-5 years' post-qualification experience
l Strategic thinking abilities, as well as conceptual and analytical abilities
l A strong, proven track record in agriculture and economic research
l Sound understanding of the priorities and challenges facing the agricultural sector in South Africa
l Ability to build and manage relationships with researchers as well as other stakeholders of the ARC l Ability to generate external funding
l A valid Code EC1 driver's licence.
