Human Rights Watch ("HRW") is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Associate with the Finance Division.

Description: The New York-based Finance Associate will provide administrative assistance to Human Rights Watch's Finance Division, including but not limited to, producing specialized monthly financial reports for HRW's divisions, city offices and special initiatives, inputting reports' data into expense reporting spreadsheets, and maintaining spreadsheets over the fiscal year; monitoring expense reports' results and providing additional reports and detail as needed or requested; assisting with accounts payable, including reviewing submitted expenses for accuracy and adherence to policy and entering expenses into financial software; handling deposits and assisting with payments and reimbursements to staff and outside vendors; and maintaining records of local hires, consultants and vacancies worldwide. The Associate will also schedule tri-annual meetings for relevant Finance staff with more than 40 divisions and cities, and assist with meeting preparation; maintain task calendars for the global Finance Division; arrange agendas for Finance meetings and record meeting minutes; assist with grant budgeting and reporting; and provide various other financial reports and data as needed.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be self‑motivated, extremely well-organized, collegial, and able to function under pressure and handle numerous tasks simultaneously. S/he must be able to prioritize with minimal supervision, and work independently as well as function as a member of a team. An undergraduate degree as well as work experience is highly desirable. Experience with Microsoft Excel (including formulas) is required, and experience with spreadsheet maintenance is a plus. Experience and/or familiarity with financial software, financial reporting, and accounting principles and practices is advantageous. Strong oral and written English language skills are required. The candidate must have a commitment to international human rights, solid office/administrative experience, demonstrated organizational skills, and strong computer skills. Salary and Benefits: Salary range starts at US$39,136. Human Rights Watch offers comprehensive employer-paid benefits, including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, an outstanding retirement savings plan and twenty (20) days vacation per year.
