Managing Director Amman Institute for Urban Development

The Amman Institute for Urban Development (Ai) is a not-for-profit institution, a regional think-and-do-tank with focus on urban planning, sustainable development, governance, and civic engagement. The Institute operates at both the local and national levels, and it believes in global thinking that is adapted locally to suit the needs of the citizens, and to reflect their visions and aspirations. The Institute is built around the idea of incubating local human capital and reversing the brain drain.

Ai provides its services through its advisory projects to national and local governments as well as donor agencies. As important, the Institute plays a critical role in shaping the discourse of urban governance and planning through executive training, publications, translation of seminal works, intellectual debates, and outreach activities to the public in general and to the children in particular. Currently, the Institute is involved in projects in Jordan and Iraq with other opportunities to expand regionally.

The Institute is looking for its next Managing Director. The Managing Director will be in charge of the operations of Ai including strategizing for the different sectors at Ai, strengthening its ability to deliver to clients, demonstrating leadership role among staff and enhancing a unique institutional culture of innovation that reflects Ai's values and mission, insuring a good level of exposure locally and internationally, securing funds and strengthening business development opportunities, and charting a blueprint for the Institute's policies. The Managing Director will be reporting to the Board of Directors chaired by the Mayor of Amman.

The Managing Director is expected to be an experienced executive manager with an intellect to lead such an institution and a strong passion to move it towards the future in order to take its role in Jordan and the region. He/she is expected to have at least twelve years of experience, preferably in the consulting business, with an advanced degree in a related field with good understanding of international development. He is expected to have an executive experience at a medium or large institution with strong leadership and communication skills. Familiarity with the donor community is a plus. Fluency in both Arabic and English is a prerequisite for this position.
