Professor in Maritime Economics

The Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH) invites applications for the position as professor in Maritime Economics.

The position is financed by a donation from Bergens Rederiforening (Bergen Shipowners´ Association). Norway has a long tradition as a maritime nation and Bergen is the home town for several internationally renowned shipping firms and service providers to the world maritime industry. NHH is Norway’s premier institution for research and education in economics, business and management.

Applicants should have a general research competence within one or more of NHH research areas such as economics, finance, management science or management and a special competence in maritime economics. A successful applicant should have conducted research where theories, analyses and results are relevant for the shipping, offshore and the maritime service industry.

It is expected that the appointee focuses on challenges and problems of special relevance to the maritime Industry and takes a leading role in further strengthening research and teaching in maritime economics at NHH. The appointee is also expected to further extend the contact between NHH and the maritime industry in Bergen and beyond.

The appointee is expected to be involved in teaching and student supervision in degree programs at all levels, and in particular, teaching and supervision of master and doctoral students who specialize in maritime economics.

The applicant will be assessed based on an overall evaluation of documented professional competence, where relevant scientific competence will have the highest weight. Scientific competence will be evaluated in terms of the amount and quality of international publications. Applicants with experience in leading and promoting research teams and documented skills in raising funds for research will be given preference.

Faculty members at NHH are expected to hold good pedagogical qualifications. In assessing the applicants’ pedagogical qualifications, experience in teaching and student supervision, quality of teaching material produced by the applicant, and other relevant documentation that demonstrates pedagogical qualifications will be considered. The appointee may also be required to enrol in a pedagogical course of short duration. In addition to submitting written documentation, possible appointees will be required to meet for an interview, and to give a trial lecture and/or a seminar.

The appointee must comply with the prevailing provisions for the position. If none of the applicants are qualified for the position, it may be opened up for an offer of temporary employment for a maximum of three years with the intention for the appointee to fully qualify for the position.

Salary is negotiable according to the State Salary Scale for Professor. NHH offers favourable membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, generous research funds for travelling and conference participation, and bonus systems for publication in international refereed journals.
