Salary in the range of £57,000 to £65,280 depending on experience/performance with more being available for an exceptional candidate

As a global financial centre, the City of London requires the highest quality research to inform effective policy-making as it is a key factor in enhancing our international competitiveness. Our substantial programme of research has already achieved a high profile, influencing policy debates in both London and Brussels. It will be up to you to drive the programme forward even further.

You will take the key role in setting the research agenda and delivering successfully against set objectives, seeing research through to completion, overseeing the work of external consultants, maintaining the highest possible standards in the published results and exploiting research findings. You will build and maintain relationships with a range of senior professionals and encourage evidence-based policy-making on an international stage.

This is a role that calls for an extensive understanding of the complex challenges within the international political and business environment, including opportunities facing the international financial and related business services sector – from the EU to Emerging Markets. You will need substantial practical experience of leading high level policy-advisory and applied research programmes in a complex stakeholder environment (in business and academic environments). You will also need a working knowledge of the public sector, exceptional presentation skills, a talent for building relationships, strong professional credibility and effective people, budget and performance management skills.

Above all, you will need the energy and enthusiasm required to commission, complete and exploit cutting-edge research into the factors that drive competitiveness in a world class city – from skills and urban regeneration to financial infrastructure and fiscal or regulatory issues.
