Senior Economist EEF

This high profile role is responsible for assisting in the development and promotion of the public understanding of the manufacturing/engineering industries role in the economy. The role also assists with and contributes to dialogue with HM Government on economic policy issues and the development and promotion of EEF representational policy and the provision of information on economic matters to EEF regional offices and member firms.

Specific responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Take responsibility for developing policy areas to support productivity and competitiveness of UK manufacturing in consultation with EEF members and stakeholders.
  • Work with EEF’s external affairs team to develop relationships appropriate external agencies and government officials. Communicate information on the state of manufacturing and EEF policy positions.
  • Produce documents to support EEF’s representational activities in the economics field. These will include regular reports on economic and business trends and prospects; an annual ‘budget proposal’ to the UK Government; and occasional documents on specific topics.
  • Develop responses to government enquiries and consultations.
  • Contribute to the work of EEF policy committees and regional council network.
  • Represent EEF in the media on economic issues.

Applicants will be degree educated in either an economics or economics related subject and be able to demonstrate experience which has been applied in industry and not necessarily from a strict economic field. You will be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the issues relating to the manufacturing and engineering industries and preferably have experience of working within in a political lobbying or campaigning organisation.

You will have proven analytical ability, preferably with some experience of economic forecasting. You will need to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and therefore be able to relate to contacts at all levels. You be a strong policy thinker, with good influencing skills and the ability to develop relationships with the people that we are seeking to influence.
