Diesel Mechanic: Underground Projects

Cullinan Diamond Mine is situated in the town of Cullinan 30km east from Pretoria. The Mine is currently mining at a depth of 747 metres using mechanised trackless block-cave mining.
Job description: The incumbent will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of an underground trackless fleet, which includes utility vehicles, LDVs, LHDs and equipment in accordance with sound engineering practices and equipment specifications.
Minimum required qualifications and experience:
Qualified Diesel Mechanic with Trade Certificate at recognised/accredited institution
Valid Code EB (08) public driver’s licence 2 5 years’ post-trade test experience as an Diesel Mechanic 2 Experience in underground trackless mining 2 Pass Vienna Assessment (Level 2) (test to be done on mine) 2 Experience in Caterpillar LHDs will be an advantage.
Duties and responsibilities:
Investigate, diagnose and perform trade-related maintenance and repairs to equipment and machinery according to the maintenance requirements
Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health Safety Act regulations, manufacturing and company standards
Report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Foreman
Identify spares requirements for underground utility vehicles
Complete maintenance job cards
Work shifts and be on standby
Communicate with clients and supervisors on maintenance activities performed and equipment handover
Ensure personal and co-workers’ adherence to and compliance with security and the Company’s SHE objectives
Work according to the Mine’s Code of Practice, and report any observations of this not being done.
Other skills/competencies:
Independent, self-motivated, proactive thinking and ability to do own job planning
Sound verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in English
Ability to work overtime, be on standby and be available for call-outs should the need arise.
