Policy and Sustainable Finance Specialist WWF Tigers Alive Initiative (TAI)

WWF is looking for energetic, motivated and experienced international policy specialist to lead its Policy and Sustainable Finance work as part of its global efforts to support the achievement of its goal to double the wild tiger population to at least 6,000 by 2020. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be part of a high profile, dynamic team and will lead the work across its network on one of its three programmatic strategies specifically aimed to create “strong political and institutional support and sufficient financing for wild tigers assured and maintained until 2022 and beyond”.

The position will be based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as part of the WWF Tigers Alive Initiative global team.

The activities under the responsibility of this position include:

• The development and implementation of policy engagement strategies
• Supporting government efforts to mobilise new resources from public and private sector sources
• Mobilising and supporting policy engagement and sustainable finance efforts for tiger conservation across the WWF network
• Leading and coordinating network efforts on sustainable financing mechanisms, such as REDD+ for tiger conservation, in partnership with experts within the WWF network and in partner organizations
• Developing and implementing activities related to reducing the footprint of companies in sectors that pose major threats to tigers and tiger habitat and help promote proactive support for tiger conservation from these and other companies
• Developing and promoting tools and approaches to reduce the impact of unsustainable development in tiger landscapes such as Smart Green Infrastructure

Specifications

The ideal candidate will have most of the following qualifications:

• Minimum 10 years of experience in similar roles gained in non-profit organizations, government institutions or the private sector
• Proficiency in English
• Experience in and the ability to lead policy work and engagement with public sector donor organizations
• Highly qualified and networked professional who can effectively engage government, particularly in tiger range countries
• Strong evidence of success in past policy work and public/private sector resource mobilization
• Ability to work with and steer experienced WWF policy staff across the WWF network to rally behind initiatives supporting tiger conservation
• Extensive understanding of international environmental policy; familiarity with the national environmental policies of one tiger range country a plus.
• Background and expertise in working in Asia is essential
• Ability to think creatively and develop ideas; possessing the drive to push initiatives through
• Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills
• Possessing strong strategic thinking and execution skills
• A Master’s degree in a related field
