Director of Development Grassroot Soccer Washington

Grassroot Soccer (GRS) is currently seeking an experienced development professional to manage its corporate, foundation, and government fundraising efforts.

GRS is an innovative global non-profit organization that uses the power of soccer to prevent HIV and AIDS. To date, more than 475,000 young people have graduated from GRS programs in 19 countries around the world. By the next World Cup in 2014, GRS aims to educate one million young people and inspire them to live healthier, more productive lives.

To fulfill our goals in the fight against AIDS, Grassroot Soccer is in the initial stage of a comprehensive campaign to raise and spend $34 million between 2012 and the end of 2014. The Director of Development will oversee and coordinate the fundraising activities for corporate, foundation, and government donors, which make up 60% of this campaign. He/She will be largely focused on building external relationships, but will also coordinate the work of a small team of US and UK based development staff, and US and Africa based senior management staff. He/She will also work with the GRS Board of Directors to develop new prospects and opportunities.

Primary responsibilities will include:

· Stewardship – Ensuring that GRS’ current wide network of corporate, foundation, and government partner relationships are maintained and expanded through regular communication and good rapport.

· Prospecting – Identifying appropriate new donors and partners by working with GRS Board of Directors and prospect research. Developing strategies for initial contact and solicitation of support.

· Proposal Writing – Overseeing the proposal writing process and teams. Ensuring that proposals submitted to donors are submitted on time, are strategic, and accurately reflect the organization’s strategic priorities.

· Strategy Development – Working with GRS senior management staff to develop creative approaches for raising funds and entering into new partnerships. Designing a business development plan that is based on field-based strategic plans and priorities.

· Representation – Attending key events, conferences, and meetings as a representative of GRS with the primary intention of building partnerships and relationships with partners and donors.

· General Management – Managing the GRS development team and coordinating development efforts of senior management. This includes regular calls and interaction with the team(s) in Africa, the US, and the UK.

Skills & Experience

· 3 years or more of experience in International Development and/or Fundraising for an international organization

· Very strong interpersonal skills and experience with internal staff management and external stakeholder/donor cultivation

· Excellent writing and editing skills

· Experience with writing government (USAID, DFID, EU, etc.) grant proposals preferred

· Experience working across various cultures

· Very strong knowledge of Global Health, HIV/AIDS, Youth Development, and funding trends in these fields

· Existing contacts and experience working with donors and INGO partners in relevant fields

· An interest in sport and an understanding of its potential to impact social development
