Salary: £39,389 gross starting salary per annum, (consisting of: basic salary- £34,422, London weighting- £2,100 and bonus- £2,867). Plus discounted health care plan.

U.S. Embassy, London, is in search of a detail orientated Economic Analyst, with exceptional interpersonal skills.

Primary duties will include:

  • analyzing economic and financial issues and trends in the United Kingdom, the fifth largest economy in the world and a major U.S. trading partner;
  • advising Embassy Economic Officers on UK approaches to economics, finance, development and energy;
  • preparing in-depth analytical reports in the form of telegrams and memos to brief Washington government agencies and Embassy officials on UK economic topics.

Qualifications Required:

NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, business, public policy, international relations, politics or law is required.
Prior Work Experience: Experience working in an economic capacity within a British Government Department or the UK Parliament, or for a think tank, NGO or company that that works directly with the UK Government on economic issues is required.

Language Proficiency: Proven writing ability in English; fluency (level IV) in English is required.

Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of modern economic principles and theory, especially macroeconomics is required. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the British economy, and British and EU economic and regulatory structures and institutions is required. Thorough grasp of British foreign policy is required. Thorough knowledge of UK political systems, parliamentary procedures and party structure is required.

Skills and Abilities: Ability to carry out independent research and analysis based on public sources and information gathered from contacts on sectors outlined above is required. Excellent organization skills with the ability to independently plan, organize and execute research projects on policy topics as directed by supervisor are required. Ability to prioritize own workload is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish, and deal tactfully and independently with a wide range of British contacts and with official American visitors are required. Ability to inter relate developments in the economic field to the broader political focus and factors at work in the UK, between the UK and other EU member states and between the UK and the European Commission and other EU institutions is required. Ability to use the MS Office Suite of products is required. Ability to use computer oriented tools, such as economic data-bases and internet search engines and data bases is required. Ability to work under pressure is required. Ability to work accurately is required.
