Benin Gender Advisor

MSH is seeking candidates for an upcoming USAID-funded integrated health program in Bénin. The project will work to increase the supply of and demand for quality health services in child health, family planning, HIV &AIDS, malaria, and maternal and neonatal health through improved health systems. This position is contingent upon MSH winning the project award.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Gender Advisor provides expertise and leadership in the development of evidence-based and culturally appropriate strategies and approaches to integrate gender considerations into all aspects of the project. The Gender Advisor also develops gender-centered programming to build the capacity of country stakeholders (including Ministries, civil society organizations, and other partners).

The ideal candidate will demonstrate familiarity with MNCH, family planning, malaria, HIV & AIDS, BCC/IEC programming as well as a passion and commitment to gender and public health issues.

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master’s Degree in public health, or related field.
2. Knowledge of U.S. foreign assistance policies and state-of-the-art approaches to gender with at least five (5) years of proven experience. Knowledge of specific gender issues in public health and sensitivity to local culture and traditions in Benin. 3. Proven record of aligning diverse, multi-level teams with project mission and vision. 4. Ability to build and maintain relationships with senior-level colleagues, particularly interacting productively, proactively, and comfortably with community leaders, government agencies, NGOs, private sector groups, and donor representatives. 5. Demonstrated strategic ability, diplomacy, conflict management, team building, supervisory, written and oral communication, and negotiation skills. 6. Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 7. Strong written and oral presentation skills in English and French are required. Willingness to travel throughout Bénin.
