In the last several years, remarkable progress has been made in fighting Malaria worldwide. Advancements in prevention and treatment have resulted in marked reductions in illness and death. Eliminating malaria in targeted regions of sub-Saharan Africa is achievable using existing tools and a focused strategy, and the Malaria Control and Evaluation Partnership in Africa (MACEPA), a program at PATH, is working with its national partners to chart the way forward through the development of an evidence-based framework to guide countries through a comprehensive set of program interventions to elimination.

As part of MACEPA’s support to national partners for implementing new approaches and strengthening the quality of current program efforts, we are seeking a Curriculum Development and Training Officer to assist with the roll out of community-based malaria prevention efforts. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Apply principles of learning, learning styles, and various instructional design approaches and processes to the development of training materials for professional and volunteer healthcare workers
  • Consult with subject matter experts and others to create instructional content that effectively engages the learner and ensures that all information is accurate, consistent, easy to understand, and well organized.
  • Select appropriate instructional strategies (e.g., inquiry, behavioral, blended) using multimedia or print.
  • Conduct training needs assessments and analysis in order to derive targeted competency- based frameworks, training strategic frameworks and learning objectives for the various curricula that might be required
  • Identify users’ needs, analyze, organize and transform complex concepts into engaging, and effective instructional activities.
  • Develop training materials including manuals, quick reference guides, instructional webinars, web-based tutorials and exercises.
  • Contribute to the development of efficient processes for content development and adaptation to other country contexts.
  • Design and deliver workshops in partnership with subject matter experts as needed.
Required Skills
  • A team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills to include conflict resolution, priority management and managing expectations of multiple clients.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, communication, and instructional design skills.
  • Ability to document training outcomes and maintain a database of alumni.
  • Proven skill to prioritizing and demonstrating thoroughness in all aspects of work performed.
  • Track record of completing assigned project tasks on time and in quality fashion, with the ability to recognize implications of, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proven skill working collaboratively with others to produce and deliver inquiry-based science curricula and professional development.
  • Track record of meeting deadlines and handling diverse tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent computer skills using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Highly organized, flexible, and adaptable to changing priorities and ability to work well under deadlines.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills; including experience facilitating trainings required.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 25% and occasional international travel.
Required Experience

Master’s degree in a relevant field (public health, education, instructional technology, instructional design) and a minimum of five years of experience in curriculum development and innovative training with adult learning approaches. Training of practicing professionals in health care related fields preferred. This should include experience with adult learning approaches.
