Role Overview:
The Executive Director is a dynamic leader capable of advocating for CHAA's goals among governments and decision/opinion makers in the Caribbean, and should demonstrate expertise in networking and strategising with local advocates on key populations as it relates to HIV issues. S/he will coordinate the work of special consultants, as needed, and manage day?to?day operations of the organisation and its staff. S/he is ultimately responsible for the implementation of the organisation’s strategic plan as directed by the CHAA Board.The Executive Director will ensure that the organisation is focussed on achieving its objectives and delivering a product that will achieve the forecasted benefits. S/he will ensure that the organisation gives value for money, ensuring a cost-conscious approach to projects/donors, balancing the demands of the business, user and supplier; while ensuring organisational growth, development and sustainability.

Role Responsibilities
The Executive Director will:

Formulate strategies and developmental plans for the welfare of the organisation.
Coordinate with the Board of Directors for the development and implementation of such programmes.
Ensure that the development of programmes is designed in a way to meet the organisational goals and objectives.
Work on the management succession planning of the organisation, to ensure that a capable management is in place to handle all the work efficiently.
Chair all the top-level meetings, and report to the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Possess excellent leadership qualities and set a fine example to the staff of the whole organisation.
Monitor and control the progress of projects at strategic levels.
Escalate issues/risks to corporate/programme management if project tolerance is forecast to be exceeded.
Assist in the development of current and long-term organisational goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures for CHAA’s operations
Provide leadership and direction for the implementation of plans for enhancing revenue and fundraising.
Work towards implementation of CHAA’s strategic plan/workplan, which includes articulating and fulfilling the CHAA’s vision.
Identify strategic opportunities to communicate, inspire and engage people in supporting and advancing CHAA’s mission.
Identify, develop and maintain successful relationships with a variety of donors, including multilateral and bilateral partners, as well as corporate donors, foundations and individuals.
Recruit, hire, and provide leadership, mentoring and supervision to CHAA, multi?national staff.



Key Tasks
Management, financial and operational:

Exceptional management and supervision skills demonstrated with a minimum of ten years direct experience in executive senior?level management positions with non?profit, charitable organisations, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Direct responsibility for fiscal oversight and management of the organisation.
Experience in overseeing sustainable organisational growth and developing infrastructure to support such growth.


Advocacy and networking:

Exceptional substantive experience and knowledge of HIV programming and services for key populations in resource?decreasing environment.
Knowledge of regional and international public policy issues, and international and regional mechanisms as they relate to key populations sexual rights advocacy, along with the ability to communicate such issues to a diverse audience including governments and the media.
A personal commitment to, respect for, and experience working with the broad range of people who comprise the CHAA stakeholder group including grassroots organisers and activists, international donors and technical experts, government officials and representatives of various UN and US system agencies and secretariats.
A track record of building partnerships with allied organisations, internationally, regionally, sub?regionally and/or locally.


Fundraising and communications:

Experience in providing and/or coordinating elements of open and efficient communication between key players, donors and other stakeholders within and outside of organisations across the region.
Proven track record in managing and/or completing fundraising with institutional, UN system, government, corporate or individual donors.
Experience relevant to communicating CHAA's mission, goals and achievements, both in writing and in person, to a broad range of targets including the general public through web?based, print and live media, HIV sector workers, MSM/TG communities as well as current and potential funders and donors.


Leadership:

Provides the overall vision of the organisation to staff across all country offices.
Manages and supervises staff effectively, fostering professional development of staff.
Creates good working relationships with international and regional donors and stakeholders as well as NGOs, CBOs, FBOs and leaders in different sectors.
Supports a positive working relationship with consultants and other agencies working in the region.
Effectively promotes CHAA externally to other groups/donors/organisations.


General:

Exceptional management and supervision skills in senior?level management positions with non?profit, charitable organisations, or professional management training, or a combination of experience and training.
Excellent verbal and written English language skills with experience in public speaking in international settings. Besides English, fluency in one or more languages is highly desirable.
Ability and willingness to travel for work extensively, as may be needed.
