UK Public Policy Manager Aviva

Aviva’s UK Public Policy team is recruiting a Public Policy Manager. The UK Public Policy Manager will play a significant role by managing the delivery of public policy programmes and helping the team become ‘best in class’.
The UK Public Policy team requires a motivated individual who is keen to drive forward the public policy work of the UK’s largest insurer – including pensions, savings, our customers’ families, homes and businesses, flooding and investment in the wider economy. The team aims to enhance Aviva’s reputation and build relationships with key stakeholders; manage legislative and policy risks; and engage with the wider external policy environment.
The role involves but is not limited to:
  • Owning specific policy areas.
  • Devising, managing and executing high quality and imaginative public affairs programmes and campaigns.
  • Managing tenders and recommending suppliers.
  • Developing strong relationships with senior external and internal stakeholders.
  • Working across teams in both Aviva Group Centre and Aviva UK, including marketing, internal comms and media teams.
  • Providing high quality advice and recommendations on public policy to internal stakeholders.
  • Supporting the EU and International public policy team as required.
  • Providing the secretariat to Flooding and Athletics APPGs.
  • Providing quality monitoring and intelligence outputs.
Experience:
  • Excellent knowledge of the UK political system, including Whitehall, the Commons and Lords, the legislative process, and their drivers.
  • Experience of working in a political institution or in a political or civil service role.
  • Experience of working in public policy in an agency or in-house.
Skills/Knowledge:
  • Has good political judgment and provides sound recommendations.
  • Good knowledge of financial services industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications. Able to pick up a brief quickly and convey complex information in a straightforward way.
  • Comfortable working at the most senior levels of the organisation.
  • Able to commission, manage and interpret research.
  • Flexible and confident enough to take on new policy areas as required.
  • Commercial nous – campaigns and programmes need to deliver value for money.
  • Project management.
  • High degree of personal initiative and ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Skilled in navigating a large organisation with multiple stakeholders.
