VSO Media Officer

Want to use your media skills to help fight global poverty?

International development charity VSO is looking for an experienced media officer to help us tell more people about VSO’s work in some of the world’s poorest countries.

You’ll develop media strategies and secure quality UK media coverage to support the work of teams across VSO UK, including fundraising, recruiting new volunteers, working with our local supporters and corporate partners and campaigning for policy change to help poor and marginalised communities.

VSO has some great stories to tell, with hundreds of volunteers living and working in communities in developing countries. You’ll need to build strong relationships with volunteers, colleagues and, of course, journalists to help us show the development impact of VSO’s unique approach to fighting poverty through people. You’ll learn a lot, working as part of a dynamic team with colleagues in parliamentary, policy and popular campaigning, together with colleagues in fundraising, marketing and our programmes in 34 countries around the world.

Requirements of the role:

-Two years’ experience of media relations work and knowledge of the UK media sector;
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
-Established media contacts;
-Ability to spot media opportunities and secure coverage;
-An understanding of UK international development issues is desirable but not essential.

Please ensure you have the right to work in the UK before applying for this role.
