Project: Developing a European Interactive Risk Assessment Tool (IRAT) for use in the Live Performance Sector

UNI Europa is recruiting an expert to carry out research, coordination and drafting assistance to its Media and Entertainment sector UNI-MEI, as well as its project partners, within the framework of the project entitled “Developing a European Interactive Risk Assessment Tool (IRAT) for use in the Live Performance Sector”. The project commenced in December 2012 and run until the end of 2013. 

The expert will be contracted on a freelance basis from January 2013 to 10 December 2013. The value of the contract is up to EUR 50 000,- all taxes and duties included. Interviews with short listed candidates will be carried out in Brussels during the week starting 21st January 2013. The successful candidate should be available for an immediate start and will participate in the first meeting of the steering group at the end of January.

The Project Expert’s main tasks will include

  • Researching and compiling, with the support and contact of the social partners, good practice examples on risk assessment in the Live Performance sector and other relevant resources from national and European level, thereby finding the common European denominator;
  • To use the information collected to feed in to the development of a European online tool;
  • Close liaison and coordination with the Bilbao Agency on Occupational Health and Safety;
  • Preparation of the steering group meetings;
  • Completion of the Interactive Risk Assessment Tool template on the basis of feedback of the steering committee and experts;
  • Coordinating and overseeing the testing phase of the new tool and adapt the tool where necessary;
  • Keeping the European Social partners of the Live Performance Sector informed about the progress of the project through reporting to the Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee;
  • Presenting the final tool to the social partners for adoption.
All tasks will be carried out with the support of the project steering group.

The successful applicant is likely to have:

  • Experience of European project work and/or working in a European or international context;
  • Good knowledge of the specificities of the live performance sector;
  • Language skills in English and one other EU language;
  • Proven drafting ability in English;
  • Education to university degree level.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Experience of the policy and practice of risk assessment;
  • Experience of health and safety issues in the Live Performance sector;
  • Experience of work with social partner organisations (trade union and employer) at national or international level in the live performance or other sectors;
  • Knowledge of the working of the European or transnational projects and/or of the European Institutions.

The successful applicant must be ready and able to:

  • Carry out telephone and internet research work at own initiative;
  • Carry out their own administrative work and provide some limited support to the project steering committee (report of the meetings, preparing the agenda);
  • Work on their own and with members of the project steering committee as required;
  • Attend Social Dialogue Committee meetings and make presentations to delegates as required.
Location: in principle the expert will work from his home office. Steering group and social dialogue meetings will take place in Brussels.
