International Crisis Group Financial Controller

Role:
Based in Brussels and reporting to the CFO, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the accounting function.
Responsibilities:

• Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts and an accompanying narrative report explaining variances between budgeted and actual expenditure for distribution to Crisis Group’s senior management;
• Assist in the preparation and review of organizational expenditure budgets (twice-yearly) in consultation with senior program and operations staff;
• Ensure that donor contributions (governments, foundations and individuals) are completely and accurately recorded;
• Assist with the preparation of budgets for funding proposals and financial reports to donors on use of funds;
• Assist with the preparation of the annual financial statements and liaise with Crisis Group’s auditor;
• Assist with the preparation of annual tax returns (US, Belgium, UK and elsewhere as needed);
• Supervise three Brussels-based accounting staff and liaise with staff in field and advocacy offices, providing assistance, training and support on a range of financial and administrative issues;
• Preparation of all statutory documentation as required (annual returns and filings); and
• Additional financial analysis and reporting as necessary.

Requirements:

• Recognised accounting qualification;
• 3 to 5 year’s professional experience in an international environment desirable;
• Computer literate with excellent knowledge of Excel. Any experience with QuickBooks, SUN accounting and VISION and ISABEL an advantage;
• Excellent English with good oral and written communication skills. French as a second language would be an advantage; and
• Personal qualities: proactive, problem-solver, stress-resistant, able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
