About the Save the Children in Papua New Guinea

Save the Children Australia, in partnership with Save the Children New Zealand as Save the Children in PNG, has more than 35 years of experience working in PNG to improve the lives of girls and boys, youth and women and men.

Current operations employ more than 150 staff working out of five offices in five provinces. Today’s country program comprises strong work in rural maternal and child health; HIV prevention, treatment, care and support; and NGO capacity building in the health sector.

Save the Children is recognised as one of the leaders in PNG in the delivery of HIV & AIDS services to “most-at-risk” populations. For the past ten years Save the Children have been partnering with AusAID and the PNG government in preventing the spread of HIV and mitigating the impacts of HIV & AIDS on families and children.

About the role

The goal of the country program is to contribute to Most at Risk Populations including adolescents’ right to enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health by improving access to quality Sexual Reproductive Health Services.

The SRH Program consists of three components: • Priority Area 1 – Prevention – through reducing the risks of HIV transmission among MARPs; addressing factors that contribute to HIV vulnerability; and creating supportive environments for HIV prevention • Priority Area 2 – Counseling, testing, treatment, care and support – through scaling up HIV counseling and testing (HCT); and expanding treatment, care and support services using a SRH approach • Priority Area 3 – Systems strengthening – through strengthening systems and organizations through ensuring the meaningful involvement of PLHIV and addressing gender inequality; strengthening leadership of the HIV response at the community level; and building the capacity of MARPs, communities and organizations to mobilize, coordinate and implement the HIV response

The Program Manager will ensure that projects are effectively designed and implemented in line with Save the Children quality standards through developing effective project management systems and supporting and monitoring the capacity building of country teams to use them. This core responsibility of capacity building national staff and partners in managing and promoting evidence-based learning and improvement will assist in maximising Save the Children’s impact and scale in realising the sexual & reproductive health rights of MARPs and young people in Papua New Guinea.

This role is an exciting opportunity for a leader with significant program management experience in an international context. Leadership experience in a complex operating environment is essential.

This role is an unaccompanied Expatriate contract role for a period of 36 months. Benefits include a tax free salary, as well as very competitive terms and conditions.
