Our Resource Evaluation division is focused on increasing Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s developed and undeveloped resource portfolio and maintain statutory tenement requirements to protect known and future resources.
 
Reporting to the Superintendent Geophysics, you will be assisting and managing all downhole logging field based activities in a safe and efficient manner.
 
As a Senior Geophysicist, your key responsibilities will include: 
  • Ensuring that downhole geophysical logging and associated activities are planned and executed as per high technical standard
  • Delivering high quality data on time
  • Directing and managing external geophysical downhole logging contractors
  • Supporting the ongoing work required to deliver density recommendations for use in resource estimation models
  • Mentoring junior team members and support staff
  • Investigating and recommending continuous improvement initiatives related to downhole geophysical logging. 
To be considered for this role, you will hold a degree in Geophysics or a related discipline along with technical experience in downhole geophysics including acquisition, processing and interpretation. Your previous experience in mining or exploration and team leading abilities will be essential for this role. Your honours degree or further academic qualifications in Geology or Geophysics  and sound experience in the iron ore industry will be advantageous.  Additionally, your  contractor management skills will be an asset.
