Senior House Officer, Department of Surgery

Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi invites applications for the position of Senior House Officer, Surgery
Responsibilities
​Reporting to the Clinical Instructor in the Department of Surgery for day to day activities, the successful candidate will be responsible for the effective management and care of patients with surgical conditions under the direct supervision of the senior surgical residents and consultant surgeons in the following clinical situations:
  1. On call duties that include in-patient and out-patient, A&E surgical consultations
  2. Surgical Assists in the operating theatre
  3. Pre and Post-operative assessment and management of surgical patients on the in-patient surgical ward and surgical high density unit.
S/he will also be expected to carry out routine data surveillance collection as part of the hospital’s quality control program.

There is ample educational exposure for the successful candidate in the full spectrum of surgical specialties as well as the opportunity to develop research skills and gain direct research experience.
Requirements
​Applicants should:

  • have an MBChB or equivalent 
  • at least two years relevant experience 
  • be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists’ Board
  • be a strong team player who works well in a team approach to patient care
Preference will be given to candidates with training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support or Paediatric Advanced Life Support.
